My wife and I are due to have our first baby in less than two weeks. The nursery is set up, everything has been bought, the car seat is installed, hospital bag is packed, and the house is spotless. With nothing else left to do but wait I feel myself washed with a sense of calmness. I wish I could say the same thing about my wife, the little monster growing inside is beginning to take a toll on her comfort. Tossing and turning in between the bathroom runs have replaced what was once a good night sleep.
Now I find myself thinking back over the last 8 months wondering where the time went. All the visits to the doctor, prenatals, ultrasounds, trips to Babies R Us, and everything in between have brought us to this point. Now we can count the number of days left on two hands (and the help of the couple toes) until the baby is due.
I have learned a lot about myself during this pregnancy. Growing up I was never around babies; heck I can honestly say that I never even seen a new born until I was in my early 20s. My wife on the other hand has been around babies her whole life taking care of cousins, working in a daycare, and now running her own day home. It is not hard to tell who has more experience in the baby department.
Fatherhood is all about learning on the fly, and I am looking forward to sharing with you what I have learned as I continue down the road of fatherhood. There is bound to be bumps and corners along the way, so check back often, subscribe to my feed, or leave a comment. Blogs are only as good as their readers, and participation is a great way to share your experiences!
My name is Chris, and I am a new dad.
